On Saturday, September 12th, my husband and I took Genevieve to the County Fair. I thought it would be a fun family outing and give her a fun new experience.
Our County Fair is small, so it isnt much like a carnival, just a traditional county fair with food and craft contests, animal showings, and a rodeo. Since we went on Saturday morning, there wasnt much going on – the judging had already taken place and the rodeo hadnt started yet.
We let Genevieve walk around the displays of crafts and foods showing off their prize ribbons and then we escorted her through the barn area. I really wanted to take her to a petting zoo, but I never could find a schedule of fair events, so I didnt know when, or even if, there was going to be a petting zoo. She was able to see several types of animals though. She didnt seem too impressed for the most part, which was surprising because she loves her dogs so much. I think she must have just been overwhelmed with all the new things. While at the fair she got to see: cows, rabbits, various types of chickens, goats, sheep, and pigs. The goats were towards the end of the aisle and by then she seemed more curious, so I guess I shouldnt have been surprised when she tried to kiss a goat!
The experience she seemed to enjoy the most was getting to walk around a new place, especially though the hay and straw.
Following the fair, we walked next door to the City Park where the local Kiwanis Club was hosting a Car and Truck Show. She loved watching the people and tried to walk off following a family pushing a stroller at one point (she loves other kids)! There wasnt much in the way of food for lunch so we opted for hamburgers from a booth and were shocked and surprised when Genevieve decided she wanted a hamburger too and proceeded to steal his burger and eat half of it! We bought another burger and sat in the grass to eat. It was amazing to see Genevieve devour that hamburger, especially since she doesnt eat much. So, all in all, I guess she had another first experience as well, because she ate almost a whole hamburger on her own and she even ate it like a hamburger ( I didnt cut it up or tear it into pieces). She had never eaten a hamburger on a bun before, although she had eaten a chopped up hamburger patty in the past. …She also got to swing in a park swing for the first time. She love it!
